Confidentiality

  • Client counselling records are maintained in accordance with the Data Protection act 1998. 

  • Any request for a copy or sight of your record, under the Freedom of Information Act 2000, can be made in writing to me. 

  • Your record will be kept for 10 years and then destroyed. After this time you will not be able to make a request to view your file.

  • Anything that you tell me is confidential, unless I have concerns about the immediate safety of yourself or anyone else, in which case I will discuss this with my supervisor. If this becomes necessary, I will try to talk to you about it first. 

  • It is a condition of the counselling contract between us that I am provided with the name of your GP, so they can be contacted if I have any concerns.

  • For confidentiality and security, all replies from me will come from my Proton email account.

Important Note:

  • You must be 18 years of age or older to access this service.

  • This is not a crisis service.

  • Do not use this service if you are at risk of harming yourself or others, or experiencing a mental health crisis, in which case you must contact emergency services or a medical professional immediately.

 

If you feel that you are at risk of harming yourself or others at any time, please make urgent contact with:

  • Your GP

  • Mental Health Matters helpline: 0800 107 0160 (0300 330 5486 from mobiles) A trained advisor will support you to find help, 24 hours a day.

If you have taken an overdose or you have harmed yourself, call 999 immediately and ask for help.
Alternatively visit your nearest Accident and Emergency department.
